Recovering at Your Own Pace
Leaving hospital is a significant step, but it doesn’t always mean you’re ready to return home straight away. You may need more time to heal, adjust to new routines, or wait for home modifications or long-term housing. This is where Short Term Accommodation (STA) through the NDIS can make all the difference.
STA gives you a safe, supportive, and fully furnished place to recover, with trained staff on hand to assist you during this important transition. At Beyond Care, we understand the challenges of post-hospital recovery — and we’re here to help you feel secure, comfortable, and in control of your next steps.
What Is Short Term Accommodation (STA)?
Short Term Accommodation is an NDIS-funded support that provides temporary housing with care and assistance. While STA is often associated with respite, it’s also commonly used after hospital discharge when returning home isn’t yet possible.
You might need STA if:
-
Your home isn’t currently accessible or ready
-
You’re waiting for SDA, SIL, or other long-term options
-
You need extra support while you regain strength
-
You’re adjusting to new medications, mobility aids, or routines
STA is designed to bridge the gap — so you’re not rushed, overwhelmed, or left without support during this vulnerable time.

Why STA Matters After Hospital Discharge
1. Supports Safer Recovery
Beyond Care provides accessible, fully furnished homes with staff trained in post-acute support. This reduces the risk of injury, complications, or readmission, especially for those recovering from surgery, illness, or injury.
2. Allows Time for Home Modifications
If your discharge plan includes changes to your home — like installing ramps, bathroom rails, or widening doorways — STA gives you a place to stay while that work is completed.
3. Reduces Stress for Carers and Families
Recovery isn’t just physical — it’s emotional too. STA eases the pressure on loved ones by ensuring professional support is available 24/7, while still allowing family to visit or be involved as needed.
4. Provides Continuity of Care
Our team works closely with your Support Coordinator, medical team, and allied health providers to ensure that your recovery plan continues outside of the hospital. This may include medication management, personal care, and meal preparation.
