Caring for a loved one with a disability is one of the most rewarding things a person can do—but it also comes with its own set of challenges. The ongoing demands of physical care, emotional support and everyday routines can take a toll on even the most dedicated carer. That’s where short-term accommodation comes in. At Beyond Care, we offer Short-Term Accommodation (STA) and respite services that give carers time to rest and recharge while providing participants with a fun, safe and supportive environment.
Short-term stays aren’t just about taking a break—they’re an important part of a healthy care plan. They give both the participant and the carer time to reset, grow and come back stronger.
What is short-term accommodation?
Short-Term Accommodation (STA), including respite, is an NDIS-funded support that allows a person with a disability to stay somewhere else for a short period. At Beyond Care, this service is available for up to 28 days each year and includes:
- 24/7 support from experienced staff
- Comfortable, accessible accommodation
- Nutritious home-cooked meals
- Planned activities and community outings
- Help with personal care and routines
Our short-term accommodation options are designed to feel like home. Participants have the opportunity to try new things, meet new people and explore their community in a safe and supported way.
Benefits for carers
Carers give so much of themselves every day. But without regular breaks, the stress can build up and lead to burnout. Respite gives carers the time to focus on their own health, attend appointments, spend time with other family members or simply relax. It’s not about stepping away from responsibility—it’s about making sure you can continue to provide the best care possible.
Taking regular breaks can also improve relationships. When both the carer and the person being cared for have time apart, they often reconnect with more patience, understanding and energy.
Benefits for participants
For participants, short-term stays are more than just time away—they’re a chance to build independence and confidence. At Beyond Care, we encourage every guest to try new routines, join in social activities and practice daily living skills. Some of the most common benefits participants experience include:
- Increased social interaction
- Improved confidence and self-esteem
- Exposure to new experiences
- More practice with routines like dressing, cooking and cleaning
These experiences support a participant’s long-term goals under their NDIS plan. Whether the aim is to build life skills or explore supported living options in the future, STA plays a valuable role in that journey.
Why choose Beyond Care for respite?
Since 2016, Beyond Care has supported participants and their families with compassionate, reliable care. Our STA homes are located across the Sydney region and are designed with comfort and accessibility in mind. We match participants with experienced staff who understand their individual needs, routines and preferences.
Each stay is personalised, so whether someone prefers quiet activities at home or exciting outings in the community, we tailor the experience to suit them. Our team communicates openly with carers and families, making sure everyone feels informed and confident throughout the process.
STA success stories
One of our regular participants, Adam, stays with us once a month to give his mother a well-earned break. During his stay, Adam enjoys going out with friends, attending barbecues and watching movies. He looks forward to every visit and often tells us how much fun he has while his mum gets time to rest.
Another guest, Leila, used to feel anxious about being away from home. After just a few weekends with Beyond Care, she now joins community activities, helps with meal prep and has made new friends. Her parents have noticed how much more confident she is, both during and after her stays.
