Honouring the Next Generation: NAIDOC Week 2025 at Wenty Hub

Two people stand beside a large poster featuring a bird made from colorful feathers and the word "NAIDOC," with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags at the top corners.

This year’s NAIDOC Week marked an important milestone—50 years of celebrating the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The 2025 theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,” encourages all Australians to support and uplift emerging Indigenous leaders shaping the future of our communities.

At Wenty Hub, NAIDOC Week offered a chance for our participants to connect, reflect and celebrate through creative and community activities. It was a week filled with colour, conversation and cultural pride.

Art and Craft with Purpose

During the week, Wenty Hub was buzzing with creativity as participants took part in art and craft sessions inspired by First Nations designs and stories. These hands-on activities helped build cultural awareness while encouraging personal expression.

Painting, drawing and other creative projects gave everyone a chance to learn about Aboriginal symbols and storytelling. They also created space for calm, shared experiences where participants could talk about the meaning behind the artwork and the importance of preserving culture through generations.

Exploring Indigenous Stories on Film

On July 8th, participants visited Fairfield Showground for a special NAIDOC Week film event. The short films screened that day focused on Indigenous history, community stories and cultural resilience.

The experience offered powerful insight into the lived experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It sparked meaningful conversations afterward, as participants reflected on what they had seen and learned.

Connecting With the Community

Our participants also stepped outside the Hub to celebrate NAIDOC Week in the wider community. From visiting local events to meeting new people, these outings gave everyone a chance to join in the spirit of celebration, pride and respect.

Being part of community events helped participants feel connected and proud to be involved in something that reaches beyond just one service or location. It was about belonging, participation and honouring culture in everyday ways.

More Than a Week

NAIDOC Week is a key part of how we celebrate inclusion and connection at Wenty Hub. It reflects our broader values of recognising diversity and empowering people to engage with community and culture.

While the week may be over, the message of NAIDOC continues. Strength, vision and legacy are carried forward by the next generation, and we are proud to walk alongside them.
